Closed Position
- Outside turn to J-hook turn
Learned a closing dip
- Sweetheart - spin out, roll in twice into a dip
|
| 4 |
10/16/07 |
- End with "twist" (arms
meet at 90d angle) into outside turn
- Focus on closed position and the outside turn
Roll
- Do NOT drop your hands as you both step in the direction
of your lead foot.
- We ended this with an outside turn. |
4 quick steps back into the kicks
Squirrel
SHOULDER GRAB from Inside Turn
* On the first slow, initiate an inside-turn, but then hold
your co-pilot's right shoulder
* Second slow and quick quick together
* Then do the basic with hips touching but kick instead of
step.
* To go backwards, pilot should pull the co-pilot back; use
your hand and also pressure at the hips (the closer in she
is to you, the more smooth it will be. You will look like
one unit.) |

CLOSED POSITION
Learned the J-Hook Turn
* First do an outside turn
* On the first slow, pilot's left arm crosses in front of
co-pilot
* 2nd slow: pilot's left arm swings around so they face each
other
* back-rock together (this is a quick-quick in closed position)

Learned
the Scissors Pretzel
* Sweetheart the co-pilot with left arm
* Get out of it with right arm (face each other with arms crossed)
* Sweetheart yourself (pilot) with left arm
* Get out of it with right arm (face each other, hands "awkward")
* Inside turn to end the move with your left arm |
Charleston
Kick Turns
- On 7, instead of kicking behind yourself, literally turn your
behind and kick straight in front of you (which is in the opposite
direction you were facing at the start of the 8 count)
- On 8, put your outside foot down
- On 1, the inside foot kicks straight in front of you, on 2
you rotate, 3 is kicking in the opposite direction (your body
has rotated), 4 that foot goes down (on outside) and repeat |

The Kick Move
Arms Over - handshake
Turn girl, turn guy, turn girl
Switch hands, arms outstretched
Then come together in closed position
4 quick steps back
4 kicks (2 in front, 2 facing each other)
Back-rock (AKA quick-quick)
Continuation out of the kicks
Roll into outside turn (don't drop the right hand at first)
Inside turn to unwind into the Scissors Pretzel |
Getting on the Co-Pilot's
Beat
- On 7, the pilot puts his right foot down instead of kicking
behind
- 8 is a weight shift
- For 1, the pilot now leads with the right foot (just like
the co-pilot)
- If the pilot chooses, he can lean to his left on "3",
pulling her towards him, causing their right legs to cross
their left
- This can be repeated for a neat effect
Triple Step Swing
East Coast is a 6 count
"Slow Slow Quick Quick" is 2, 4, 5, 6
Triple step is "1 and 2", "3 and 4" back
rock
(Each #/word is a step)
Rotating with the basic step
Looked at the style that comes with rotating in a

11/13/07 |
* Learned another pretzel
move
"The (Original) Pretzel"
o The hands should be inverted such that
the pilot's are on top (face down)
o With left hand, the pilot leads the co-pilot into an "outside"
roll so that they are backs are touching
o From this position, pilot should take a step to the left as
he brings his right arm over copilot's head
o Now, while turning left, the pilot should bring his right
arm over his own head and turn around
o Inside turn out of it
o (These are all done to quick steps)

Reviewed the
basic with rotation in open and closed pos.
Examined alternate ways to end a handshake
=== "Beginner switch of hands" except step in front
of her as you switch hands, then pull her back in front of
you
=== Lead the inside turn, but instead of switching hands,
place her right hand on your right shoulder. Let go and let
her hand slide down/across your back, grabbing it with your
right hand bent behind your back. Twist yourself and then
inside turn her to end it.
"Floating Dip" --> Sweetheart
your partner. Push her to your left as her feet stay planted
and her arms supported under your outstretched arms. Stand
back up.
=== "Chrommy Option" --> Sweetheart her - keep
her the sweetheart hand hold and take her down... when you
bring her back up, immediately unwind. |

YET ANOTHER
way to end the handshake position
* On the first slow, initiate an inside-turn,
but then hold your co-pilot's right shoulder
* Second slow and quick quick together
* Then do the basic with hips touching but kick instead of
step.
* To go backwards, pilot should pull the co-pilot back; use
your hand and also pressure at the hips (the closer in she
is to you, the more smooth it will be. You will look like
one unit.)
Getting
out of the shoulder hold from the inside-turn.
"Flip Around"
o The pilot inside turns the copilot, as the copilot is turning,
guide her with your right hand
o As the turn is completed, the pilot's hand should be pressed
against the front of the copilot's shoulder and they should
be facing opposite directions.
o With his left hand, the pilot leads an outside turn; the
pilot's right hand pivot around the back of the co-pilot (never
losing contact with the back!)
o As that move completes, the pilot should push (using the
right hand in an inverted position) to his right while spinning
to his left.
o This brings the partners back together.
